5 Reasons to Replace Fogged Windows

5 Reasons to Replace Fogged Windows

1) Aesthetics:

Lets face it, a crisp clean looking window lets your room look so much nicer than a dingy fogged unit. Both from the inside and the outside. Additionally your house plants with grow better with the natural light.

2) More Energy Efficient:

An insulated unit is two pieces of glass sealed together with a spacer in between the panes. Sometimes manufactures put Argon, or another gas, inside the units while other times desiccant is put inside the spacers. Over time the seal fails allowing the gas to seep out and moisture to seep in. If moisture seeps in the desiccant will absorb the moisture as much as it can. Either way, moisture will eventually get between the two pieces of glass and the window will fog. Once this seal is broken the air getting into your thermal pane will be able to get into your house, bringing the winter's chill or summer's heat with it. By replacing the glass unit with a new one you will protect the integrity of your window. The best part is that you do not need  to replace the whole window, you only replace the glass! Doing this ensures that all of your windows continue to match each other. (Note that wood windows may have additional issues such as rot. )

3) Noise Reduction:

The same way that cold air is entering though the insulated unit, noise is entering - and exiting. You might not care so much about sharing your music with the outside world, it's not like they can hear every decibel from the street, but what about those noisy cars driving by that need a muffler tune-up or the cars blasting your least favorite music? Do you really want to bothered?

4) Less interior lighting needed:

It's not a secret that a well lit room appears bigger. When a window is fogged, it is not efficiently letting light in. If you're at home, chances are you're turning the lights on. Perhaps you bought energy efficient light bulbs to help keep your electricity bill down. An additional alternative is to open your blinds and let the natural light in - as long as your windows are fog free. Placing mirrors across from the windows will help spread the light even more! A house lit well by natural light does not need as many lamps on.

5) Health Benefits of Natural Light:

Besides the fact that light lets our body naturally know what time of day it is (wake up time/ bed time) the sun has other wonderful properties. A few of the benefits of light are that it:

                a) kills some bacteria that grows in the dark places of your home

                b) strengthens your immune system

                c) fights depression

                d) lowers cholesterol

                e) increases vitamin D in the body
